New Fire Station in West Kelowana, BC, Rising from Ashes

May 1, 2024
Although half of Wilson's Landing firefighters lost their homes, none left the department.

A volunteer fire department has done more than just rise from the ashes.

The Wilson's Landing Fire Department was destroyed last August by a wildfire.

More than half of its members also lost their homes near West Kelowana, according to CBC.

Not only is there a new fire station, firefighters are stronger and more united than before.

"Right now we're super strong," Chief Paul Zydowicz said adding that it's a great place to be.

Capt, Rob Baker said the department didn't lose a single firefighter. In fact, new members have joined the ranks.
